1894 Campaign Participation

Securing the success and long-term future of Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club

Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club is London’s most centrally located hockey club. We are an England Hockey ClubMark, Talent Centre and Talent Academy accredited club with over 1,000 members and provide junior, adult and masters hockey for all abilities and backgrounds.

Unlike almost all of our England Hockey League and London Hockey League competitors, we do not own any real assets, hockey pitches and/or a club house.

Continued growth and recent successes on and off the pitch has resulted in a funding gap between club income and expenditure.

The 1894 Campaign was launched in 2022-23. It includes a number of initiatives which are intended to secure the success and long-term future of Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club. These initiatives include, amongst other things:

educating players, parents, supporters & alumni of the club's charitable status (registered charity), and the potential tax benefits and efficiencies that accrue to both the donor and the club from making charitable donations;
seeking raffle and auction prize donations from players, parents, supporters & alumni;
holding an Annual Fundraising Dinner in February each year; and
inviting players, parents, supporters, alumni and local and London based businesses to become:
1894 Club Members;
1894 Network Members; and/or
1894 Society Members.

Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club is a registered charity (charity registration number 1129592), and any gifts made to the club are therefore exempt from UK Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax. Current HMRC rules provide that if you leave 10% or more of your net estate to a UK charity, you can reduce the Inheritance Tax on the rest of your 'net estate' from 40% to 36%.
