HWHC Continued Growth and Recent Successes

England Hockey League | Ladies and Men's 1s and 2s

The England Hockey League (EHL) is the pinnacle of club hockey in England. The EHL sits above the eight Area Leagues and has three tiers – Premier Division (the top 12 women's and men's teams); Division One - North and South; and Conference – East, Midlands, North, West. The EHL comprises 144 teams.

HWHC are one of only six clubs with teams competing in both the Men's and Women's Premier Division.

HWHC are one of only three clubs with teams in both the Men's and Women's Premier Division and 2nd XI Men's and Women's teams playing at other levels in the EHL (Conference East).

The winner of the Premier Division qualifies for the EuroHockey League in the following season, and the runner-up qualifies for the EuroHockey Club Trophy. The EuroHockey League is hockey’s equivalent of the UEFA Champions League, and the EuroHockey Club Trophy is hockey’s equivalent of the UEFA Europa League.

Talent Academy | England Hockey

In 2022, HWHC became 1 of 17 clubs across England to host a Talent Academy. A Talent Academy is a licensed club that is part of a national network of delivering provision to the highest potential boys and girls from U15 - U18. A Talent Academy provides an education programme and high-quality coaching across 40-44 weeks of the year to help prepare athletes for the demands of junior international hockey.

Talent Centre | England Hockey

In 2022, HWHC became 1 of 33 clubs across England to gain Talent Centre accreditation. A Talent Centre club is a club that provides high quality provision for players at early talent development level (Talent Foundations). This provision is embedded within the club’s junior programme. Talent Centre accreditation recognises the quality of a club’s talent development environment and provision, not individual players.

HWHC's Junior section has grown from 30 to over 600 players aged 5 to 18.

The Junior club has approximately 30 age-group teams, and offers Summer and Winter camps for all ages and abilities.

Several Junior members have been selected to represent England at age group level.

The Junior club pathway to Senior hockey has seen Junior members play Men’s 1s, Men’s 2s, Men’s 3s, Thirsts, Men’s Colts, Ladies 1s, Ladies 2s, Ladies 3s, Ladies 4s, Ladies 5s, Ladies 6s and Ladies 7s.

Approximately one third of HWHC U13 to U17 players competed above club level:

  • 26 were part of the HWHC Talent Academy
  • Two players represented England U18 Boys for the duration of the season

The Club fielded five teams at the London Youth Games to represent Westminster, Camden and Brent. Westminster Girls won their group stage and finished fourth out of nineteen teams.
