Season Highlights

Season Highlights

During Season 2024-25 the club fielded:

Senior Performance (c.70 members): 2 Men's and 2 Ladies teams in the England Hockey National League (EHL), and 1 Ladies team in the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2025;

Senior Non-performance (c.210 members): 6 Men's and 5 Ladies teams in the London Hockey Adult League;

Masters (c.40 members aged 40+): 3 Men's teams in the London Hockey Masters League;

Juniors (600 members aged 5 to 18): 28 Junior teams in various England, London and regional hockey leagues; and

Talent Academy: 2 Talent Academy teams (boys & girls).

EUROHOCKEY CLUB TROPHY

(hockey's equivalent of the UEFA Europa League)

The Ladies 1s won the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2025 in Rakovnik, Czech Republic. This was the club's first major European trophy, and followed on from a Bronze Medal winning performance by the Ladies 1s in the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2023.

ENGLAND HOCKEY LEAGUE (EHL)

(the pinnacle of club hockey in England)

The Ladies 1s finished first in the Premier Division regular season (thereby automatically qualifying for the EuroHockey Club Trophy in 2026), but after two narrow losses in the Playoffs finished the season in 4th place.

Premier Division

Rhett Halkett resigned as Head Coach of the Men's 1s three months into a 3 year term (to become assistant coach to Australia Women). Danny Newcombe (Wales Men's Head Coach) succeeded Halkett as Head Coach for the second half of the season, assisted by Marc Edwards.

The Men’s 1s finished the season in 5th place.

Division 1 South

The Ladies 2s finished 2nd in the league, narrowly missing out on top spot and promotion to Division 1 South.

Conference East

The Men’s 2s finished the season mid-table, with six drawn matches.

LONDON HOCKEY ADULT LEAGUE

The Ladies 3s finished 5th in the league.

Premier Division

The Ladies 4s finished 7th in the league.

Division 1

The Men's 3s finished 11th in the league.

Division 2 South

The Ladies 5s finished 8th in the league.

Division 2 North

The Zak Honds finished 4th and the Men's 4s finished 9th in the league.

Division 3 North

The newly promoted Thirsts struggled and were relegated to Division 4 North West.

The Ladies 6s finished 2nd and the Ladies 7s finished 4th in the league.

Division 4 North West

Division 5 North West

The Spaniards finished 4th and the Men's Colts finished 5th in the league.

LONDON HOCKEY MASTERS LEAGUE

South Masters Men's O40 Premier

The Men's Masters (Over 40s) finished sixth in the league. 

South Masters Men's O50 Premier

The Men's Supervets (Over 50s) won the league.

South Masters Men's O60 Premier

The Men's Grandmasters (Over 60s) finished fifth in the league.

The Men's 3s finished eleventh in the London Area Men’s Division 1.

The Zak Honds finished fourth and the Men's 4s finished ninth in London Area Men's Division 2 North.

The newly promoted Thirsts struggled in London Area Division 3 North and were relegated.

The Ladies 3s finished fifth in the London Area Premier Division.

The Ladies 4s finished seventh in the London Area Division 1.

The Ladies 5s finished eighth in London Area Division 2 North.

The Ladies 6s finished second to West Hampstead 4s and the Ladies 7s finished fourth in Division 4 North West.

The Men's Supervets (Over 50s) won the South Masters O50 Premier Division title.

The Men's Masters (Over 40s) finished sixth in the South Masters O40 Premier Division.

The Men's Grandmasters (Over 60s) finished fifth in the South Masters O60 Premier Division.

The Men’s 2s finished the season mid-table in the EHL Conference East Division, with six drawn matches.

The Senior Performance Coaches continued to select players from the Junior club to play EHL National League hockey (Premier Division (Men's & Ladies 1s) and Conference East (Men's & Ladies 2s)).

Jake Glew at 15 years of age become the youngest Men’s player to take part in the EHL Premier Division, and the youngest to score a goal in the EHL PremierDivision.

Jake Glew was presented with the Hockey Writers Club’s Under 16 Junior Award for boys.

HWHC maintained England Hockey Talent Centre accreditation in 2025, recognising the quality of the club's talent development environment and provision.

HWHC's Talent Academy license was re-awarded for a further three year term. HWHC is one of 24 clubs around the country to have been appointed as a Junior Talent Academy. A Talent Academy aims to develop high performance players in the U15-18 age group: 25 boys and 25 girls, selected from a catchment area covering central and north London.

The U18 Boys defeated Repton School to win the National Tier 1 Cup competition.

The U14 Boy won the National Tier 2 Plate competition with an 8-0 win against Sheffield Hallam.

The club managed six teams for the London Youth Games, representing Westminster, Camden and Kensington & Chelsea.

[8] individuals, families and/or companies became 1894 Club Members, donating an incredible £XX to the club.

The Club holds a successful Annual Fund Raising Dinner in the City of London that raises £23,000.

The Club establishes an award for umpiring in memory of the late Nick Cowley (the Cowley Cup).

The club had another successful year on the international stage, with many junior, senior and masters members representing England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Great Britain, South Africa, U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand at junior (U16 & U18), age-group (U21), senior and masters (O40, O45, O50, O55, O60 & O70) levels.
