Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club
Established in 1894 and based at Paddington Recreation Ground in Maida Vale, Hampstead & Westminster Hockey Club (HWHC) is London’s most centrally located hockey club, making it ideal for those who live and work in and around London.
We are an England Hockey ClubMark, Talent Centre and Talent Academy accredited club with over 1,000 members and provide junior, adult and masters hockey for all abilities and backgrounds.

During the 2025-26 season the club fielded:
Senior Performance (c.70 members): 2 Men's and 2 Ladies teams in the England Hockey National League (EHL), and 1 Ladies team in the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2026;
Senior Non-performance (c.210 members): 6 Men's and 5 Ladies teams in the London Hockey Adult League;
Masters (c.40 members aged 40+): 3 Men's teams in the London Hockey Masters League;
Juniors (600 members aged 5 to 18): 28 Junior teams in various England, London and regional hockey leagues; and
Talent Academy: 2 Talent Academy teams (boys & girls U15-U18).

During the 2024-25 season the club fielded:

EUROHOCKEY CLUB TROPHY

The Ladies 1s won the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2025 in Rakovnik, Czech Republic. This was the club's first major European trophy, and followed on from a Bronze Medal winning performance by the Ladies 1s in the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2023.

ENGLAND HOCKEY LEAGUE
(the pinnacle of club hockey in England)
The Ladies 1s finished first in the Premier Division regular season (thereby automatically qualifying for the EuroHockey Club Trophy in 2026), but after two narrow losses in the Playoffs finished the season in 4th place.
David Cooper was Ladies 1s Head Coach, and Tim Deavin was Ladies 1s Assistant Coach.
Premier Division
Rhett Halkett resigned as Men's 1s Head Coach three months into a 3 year term (to become assistant coach to Australia Women). Danny Newcombe (Wales Men's Head Coach) succeeded Halkett as Head Coach for the second half of the season, assisted by Marc Edwards.
The Men’s 1s finished the season in 5th place.
Division 1 South
The Ladies 2s finished 2nd in the league, narrowly missing out on top spot and promotion to EHL Division 1 South.
Conference East
The Men’s 2s finished the season mid-table, with six drawn matches.
LONDON HOCKEY ADULT LEAGUE
The Ladies 3s finished 5th in the league.

The Ladies 4s finished 7th in the league.

The Men's 3s finished 11th in the league.
Division 2 South
The Ladies 5s finished 8th in the league.

The Zak Honds finished 4th and the Men's 4s finished 9th in the league.
Division 3 North
The newly promoted Thirsts struggled in a strong league, and were relegated to Division 4 North West.
The Ladies 6s finished 2nd and the Ladies 7s finished 4th in the league.

The Spaniards finished 4th and the Men's Colts finished 5th in the league.
LONDON HOCKEY MASTERS LEAGUE
South Masters Men's O40 Premier
The Men's Masters (Over 40s) finished 6th in the league.
South Masters Men's O50 Premier
The Men's Supervets (Over 50s) won the league, only dropping 5 points throughout the season.
South Masters Men's O60 Premier
The Men's Grandmasters (Over 60s) finished 5th in the league.
JUNIOR CLUB ROUNDUP
U18 Boys 1s: Winner of Tier 1 Cup (National title) and runner up in Tier 1 League A, progressing to area League Finals, finishing 4th.
U18 Girls 1s: 2nd in Tier 2 League A.
U18 Boys 2s: 2nd in Tier 2 League A.
U18 Girls 2s: 2nd in Tier 3 League.
U16 Boys 1s: Winner of Tier 2 League A and winner of area League Finals.
U16 Girls 1s: Promoted from Tier 2 to Tier 2A League at Christmas, finishing 3rd in Tier 2A League.
U16 Boys 2s: 3rd in Tier 3A League North.
U16 Girls 2s: Promoted from Tier 3A to Tier 2 League at Christmas, finishing 3rd in Tier 2 League A.
U16 Girls 3s: Winner of Tier 3A League North.
U14 Boys 1s: Promoted from Tier 2 to Tier 1B League at Christmas, finishing 2nd and progressing to area League Finals, finishing 2nd. National champions for Tier 2 Plate.
U14 Girls 1s: Missed out on the Tier 1 Supraleague, moving to Tier 1A at Christmas where they finished 1st and progressed to area League Finals, finishing 3rd.
U14 Boys 2s: 2nd in Tier 3A League North.
U14 Girls 2s: 2nd in Tier 3A League North.
U14 Girls 3s: 2nd in Tier 3B League North.
The U12 Boys competed in the Performance League – the U12 Boys finished in the top 6 to progress to Finals. The U12 Boys Plate team won their group competition and went on to win the London title.
The U12 Girls competed in the Performance League.
Other select highlights from the 2024-25 season (in no particular order):
To celebrate 130 years of HWHC, the club commissioned a limited edition track jacket.
To celebrate 40 years of HWHC Ladies, the club celebrated with players past and present at Chapel Bar, Islington to recognise the enormous contribution the Ladies section has and continues to make both on and off the pitch.
The club appointed three new Vice Presidents: Kat (Katherine) Baker and Hayley Turner, joint captains of the Ladies 1s, and Annebeth Wijtenburg (Smith), who played a large part in securing Women's EHL Premier Division hockey for the club.
The club established an award for umpiring (the Cowley Cup - awarded to the person who makes the greatest contribution to umpiring during the season), in memory of the late Nick Cowley who sadly passed away on 17 October 2024 - Nick was one of HWHC's finest.
The new scoreboard was inaugurated at Paddington Recreation Ground by the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Mr Robert Rigby, recognising the donation for its acquisition by Morley Pecker, who also celebrated his 70 years since becoming a member of the club.

The club's senior international coaches and players continued to coach and run Junior, Talent Academy and Senior sessions and matches: Kiran Arunasalam (Australia), Caoimhe Byrne (Ireland), Iona Campbell (England), Tim Cross (Ireland), Ted Graves (England), Matt Guise-Brown (South Africa), Olivia Hamilton (Great Britain & England), Holly Hunt (Great Britain & England), Dale Hutchinson (Wales), Hywell Jones (Wales), Kei Kaeppeler (Wales), James Oates (Great Britain & England), Miriam Pritchard (Great Britain & England), Madi Ratcliffe (Australia), Toby Reynolds-Cotterill (Great Britain & Wales), Rupert Shipperley (Great Britain & Wales), and Nicola White (Great Britain & England).
HWHC maintained England Hockey Talent Centre accreditation in 2025, recognising the quality of the club's talent development environment and provision within the club's junior programme.
HWHC's Talent Academy license was re-awarded for a further three year term. HWHC is one of 24 clubs around the country to have been appointed as a Junior Talent Academy. A Talent Academy aims to develop high performance players in the U15-18 age group to help prepare them for the demands of junior international hockey: 25 boys and 25 girls, selected from a catchment area covering central and north London.
Junior Tour to the Netherlands: in August 2024, two U14 teams travelled to the Netherlands for a long-weekend to play at three Dutch clubs: HC Oranje Rood, HC AMVJ and HC Den Bosch.
Talent Academy Tour to The Hague: in April 2025, the Talent Academy Boys & Girls entered tournaments hosted by HDM in The Hague.
The U16-U17 Boys welcomed HC Klein Zwitserland to Paddington Recreation Ground for a Sunday fixture, followed by bangers & chips in The Carton's pub garden.
25% of HWHC U13s - U18s reached County level and above during the season.
The club managed six teams for the London Youth Games, representing Westminster, Camden and Kensington & Chelsea.
The Senior Performance Coaches continued to select players from the Junior club to play EHL National League hockey (Premier Division (Men's & Ladies 1s) and Conference East (Men's & Ladies 2s)).
At 15 years of age, Jake Glew became the youngest HWHC men’s player to take part in the EHL Premier Division, and the youngest to score a goal in the Premier Division.
At the 41st annual awards lunch, Jake Glew won the Hockey Writers' Club U16 Boys Player of the Year award.
The club had another successful year on the international hockey stage, with many junior, senior and masters members representing England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Great Britain, South Africa, U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand at junior (U16 & U18), age-group (U21), senior and masters (O40, O45, O50, O55, O60 & O70) levels.
Ted Graves, Men's 1s player and U16 Boys Coach, was part of the Gold Medal winning Great Britain U21s team, beating Australia in the final of the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia.
The club's talented Goalkeeper & Great Britain star Miriam Pritchard ('Pritchard's Pencils') - designed the 40 years of HWHC Ladies Invitation, and HWHC Christmas Cards - the sales proceeds from the cards helped the Ladies 1s raise funds to compete in the EuroHockey Club Trophy in Rakovnik, Czech Republic.
Eight Ladies 1s squad members and their coach, Dave Cooper, run 1,116 km, the distance between Maida Vale and Rakovník, as a fund raising exercise for the Ladies 1s trip to the EuroHockey Club Trophy in Rakovnik, Czech Republic.
The club announced new sponsor and partnerships with Mountview Capital and Wolfpack Bars.
The club announced new 1894 Network partnerships with Athlete Origin and The Portfolio Group.
The club announced on-going partnerships with Willow Tree Dental, Hawkinsport and Adidas.
The club held its Annual Fundraising Dinner at Balls Brothers in the City of London in February, and successfully raised in excess of £25,000 - thank you for the combined generosity of those who donated auction and raffle prizes, and those who attended the dinner. 12 individuals and families became 1894 Club Members during the 2024-25 Season, generously donating in aggregate c.£96,000 which with gift aid claimed by the club raised a total of c.£118,000.
A further c.£10,000 was raised for the club via generous donors and donations, Benevity, employer matched funding, JustGiving, and EasyFundraising.
