U19 Boys play in the EHCO Trophy at SV Kampong
After winning the National Tier 1 Cup Final as U18 Boys last season, HWHC secured the English spot in the annual EHCO Trophy alongside The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Belgium and South Africa.
In a tough group they faced RC Polo (Spain) on Friday night. They put on a fantastic performance but struggled to convert their chances, finishing 1-2 to the Spaniards.
On Saturday afternoon they met Waterloo Ducks (Belgium). In a much tougher match, they got on the scoreboard early on but finished 1-5.
Their third match was the toughest yet against top of the group, Wespen (Germany). With a controversial disallowed goal for HWHC early on, the team lost a bit of momentum and Wespen capitalised with a few quick goals. Despite being 1-6 down at halftime, HWHC played a cracking second half and the game ended at 2-8 after a late surge from the Germans.
In the 7th/8th play off they played Rotterdam (The Netherlands) at 9am on Monday with some bleary eyes from the Sunday night BBQ and social. At 2-2 in Q4, it looked like the game would go to shuffles before Rotterdam won a penalty corner in the closing minutes and converted to win 3-2.
The team worked hard across four tough days and it was great to see the HWHC graduates return for the tournament.
