HWHC L1: 0 vs Wimbledon L1: 2
Hampstead Ladies 1s faced off against Wimbledon Ladies 1s at Raynes Park for the third game of Phase 2 in a highly anticipated encounter. It was Wimbledon who started the game with authority, dominating possession in the opening quarter. Their early pressure paid off when they had an opportunity along the baseline ending with a well-executed reverse flick from the penalty spot which found the back of the net, giving Wimbledon a 1-0 lead.
As the game progressed, Hampstead began to find their rhythm. With more possession, they started to create opportunities in front of goal. However, despite several promising moments, they struggled to break down Wimbledon’s defence and were unable to find the finishing touch past the goalkeeper.
Wimbledon continued to press forward, and their persistence paid off once again. A penalty corner saw a reverse deflection sail into the roof of the net, putting Wimbledon 2-0 up and leaving Hampstead with an uphill battle going into the break.
At half-time, both teams regrouped. Hampstead, clearly fired up, came out for the third quarter with a renewed sense of urgency. The team began to press Wimbledon higher up the pitch, earning more possession in dangerous areas. However, despite the increased pressure, Hampstead could not find a way past the Wimbledon defence, with their goalkeeper standing strong.
With the final quarter remaining, Hampstead knew they had to go all in to salvage something from the match. They dominated possession and created a number of chances, but once again, they were unable to convert. Wimbledon, resolute in defence, managed to hold off the Hampstead attack, securing a 2-0 victory.
