Hampstead & Westminster had a tentative start to the first quarter as they got to grips with the boundless energy of students hyped up on red bulls. Some slack basics and loose ball handling meant that neither team secured a foothold in the match despite Uni of Notts threatening. Tobias Reynolds-Cotterill was the hero as he saved a penalty stroke following a well worked Notts Uni Penalty Corner.

However, the boys soon moved up the gears, progressing the ball well through the midfield and beating the Notts Uni press with a mixture of slick passing and stunning overheads from the imperious Matthew Guise-Brown and Toby Vaughn. Hampstead took a 1-0 lead into half time courtesy of a trademark powerful Guise-Brown finish low to the keepers left.

Hampstead picked up where they left off in the second half, penning Notts Uni deep in their defensive half as relentless wave after wave of white and blue shirt poured forwards. Kei Käppeler secured a notable hat-trick in the second half. Notable for him exceeding his goal tally from last season in just two matches this year and a remarkable tackle goal, which the Notts Uni keeper graciously watched into the bottom corner for him. Guise-Brown finished off the rout to make it a comfortable 5-0 win to kickstart our season at home.

It was amazing to have a full sideline of supporters and both sides would like to thank everyone for coming down to watch. Also, huge shout out to those who helped with ball patrol - we couldn’t have done it without you! The fun then continued off the pitch, as members from a whole host of teams throughout the club piled into the Carlton to watch the rugby and consume many a pint. A great evening was had by all, and it is safe to say that the first Super Saturday of the season was a huge success.

Next weekend both Mens and Ladies 1s head to Sonning Lane where they face Reading HC in, what is expected to be, another thrilling double header weekend!
