HWHC: 2 vs Beeston: 2
Round 2 Super Saturday saw us take on an in-form Beeston at home. Adding to the long list of recent debutants we had another three with Ryan Crowe and Dylan Swanepoel strengthening our South African contingency and Kiran Arunasalam adding to the Aussies.
Starting quickly out the gates, Beeston applied some attacking pressure and had some chances. Although soaking up the pressure for most of the first quarter a converted PC at the 16 minute mark saw Beeston take a 1-0 lead into quarter time.
Our midfield got busy early in the second and started to gain control through Mikey and Dale which was the catalyst for our boys to start dominating possession. Fast hands by Jolyon in the circle earned a PC and Matt GB the opportunity to slot a flick bottom left to make it 1-1 heading into halftime.
In the second half the game started to get a little bit scrappy, green cards started to flow with Dylan opening up his account in his debut. Towards the end of the quarter Beeston managed to score a FG against the run of play, setting up a big finish in the fourth.
Setting up camp in the attacking half our boys were knocking on the door of the next goal. Matt Richards found himself running in at goal and shooting between the goalies legs only for the ball to be saved off the line. With 6 minutes to go TRC was pulled to play with 11 field players. The boys moved up and peppered the circle and finally with 2 minutes to go, Mikey ran the baseline and found a diving Kei deflection, 2-2 all.
Disappointing to only come away with 1 point after playing some decent hockey. Overwhelmingly positive though is that we have a number of new faces and there is signs that the team is starting to click into gear.
With a stand out performance on the pitch and also at the new joiners social Mikey Robson was this weeks Man of the Match
